DIY Pest Prevention Techniques

Eco Pest Control operating in multiple Malaysian cities can go a long way in controlling pests before they enter your home. Regularly vacuuming and sweeping, wiping down surfaces, and storing food in airtight containers will disrupt the living conditions that attract pests. Keep clutter to a minimum, especially in attics and basements, which are often used as hiding spots by pests. Planting certain herbs like basil, peppermint, and eucalyptus around your house can also act as natural pest deterrents.

Remove Food, Water, and Shelter

Pests are most attracted to the food, water, and shelter they can find near your home. Eliminate the food sources that attract them by cleaning up crumbs and spills, storing food in sealed plastic or glass containers, and disposing of garbage regularly. Keep bird feeders and bird baths away from the house, and keep yard debris raked up and away from the foundation of your home. Inspect and seal cracks and crevices for entry points, and repair leaky pipes.

Many pests, such as cockroaches and ants, are attracted to light. Use yellow or sodium vapor lights to keep them at bay, and consider using a natural rodent deterrent like chalk. If you choose to apply a chemical pest control solution, be sure to read and follow the label carefully. Using the incorrect amount or applying it too close to your home could have serious consequences. Always store any leftover pesticide in its original container and don’t reuse it for anything else, as children and pets can easily get into it and become poisoned.
